Bead Circus celebrates 1st anniversary in new location

July 19, 2015

It is just over a year since Bead Circus opened at a new location, at 120 S. Broadway in downtown Lebanon, right next to the Golden Turtle Chocolate Factory.

120 S. Broadway, Lebanon Ohio,
is the new location for Bead Circus,
which has been in Lebanon since 2003.

This is how it happened. I had announced that Bead Circus would be closing in mid-May last year, and would be going entirely online. The rent had gone up, again, and too much of the bead business had shifted to on-line. Many of the bead stores in the area had already closed.

Why people love a real bead shop

Many of our customers expressed their dismay at the closing of the shop. Beaders like to see what they are buying; they like to experiment with various beads in the shop, and they like to match their colors to other beads or even yarn. Bead Circus has always had a great selection of seed beads. Customers also love the exclusive beading kits that I design and put together, everything from Christmas tree earrings, to seed bead bracelets.

Ted to the rescue!

Two days before Bead Circus was to close, one of my customers was lamenting to Ted, owner of the nearby Golden Turtle Chocolate Factory, how sorry she was that my shop was closing. Ted has always been a great supporter of other businesses in town, and he didn't want to lose another specialty shop in our quaint and historic downtown area.

Ted immediately walked the half block to my old location, and offered to show me the empty storefront next to the Golden Turtle, to see if I would be interested. I marched up there with a friend to take a look. I saw the possibilities right away. It was a very cute little shop, in a good location, and the price was right. Everyone buying chocolate would see my store. So instead of closing, I changed my plans and decided to re-open, on a little smaller scale, and with a shorter work week, but Bead Circus would carry on in downtown Lebanon.

It was a lot of work, but we moved in and re-opened in mid July of 2014. If you haven't stopped in to see the new shop, please drop by. While you are here, check out the chocolate shop next door too.

My normal hours this summer are Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Warren County Fair Week

The week of July 20 is Fair Week! The shop is open Monday through Saturday this week from noon to 5 p.m. because the Warren County Fair is open every day, and it is usually a busy week in town. Look for the Bead Circus sign on the sidewalk next to the Golden Turtle Chocolate Factory.
